[RALEIGH, NC] - Shaw struggled offensively Friday evening and lost two games to visiting Anderson 10-2 and 9-0 at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.

In the first game, Shaw gave up two runs to the Trojans in the first inning, but got one back in the bottom of the second when Kemesha Braithewaite singled and eventually stole home as part of a double steal. 

In the third inning, Erica Lafrades collected her second hit of the game when she slapped a ball to left field.  She scored on Jolene Arroyo's single through the left side of the infield and tied the game at two.

The Trojans answered with an offensive explosion in the top of the four, sending all nine batters to the plate, and scoring five runs.  The would add another three in the top of the fifth, ending the game after five on the eight-run mercy rule with a score of 10-2.

In the second game, only three Lady Bears were able to get a hit and while starting pitcher Gina Yozza avoided the big inning, she allowed two runs to score in four different innings.  The Lady Bears would fall 9-0 after six in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

Shaw's leadoff trio of Lafrades, Shai Bease and Arroyo collected Shaw's three hits, but they did it in three separate innings.  Only six Lady Bears got on base, and two made it as far as third, but could not make it home.

Yozza gave up one run in the first, then kept the Trojans off the scoreboard in the second.  But Anderson scored two in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take the game on the mercy rule after six innings of play.

With the losses, Shaw falls to 1-4 on the season.

The Lady Bears return to action Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when they host Newberry.  They will finish the weekend Sunday, hosting Mercyhurst in a doubleheader that begins at noon.  All Shaw home games are held at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
