ORANGEBURG, SC --Isaiah Buckley scored 24 points and Dreveon Scott added 21 and the Shaw men's basketball team knocked off the Claflin Panthers 81-79 on the road Saturday.
Buckley and Scott's stellar scoring performances led the Bears (14-6, 6-6) in the contest. Buckley tacked on two steals and Scott added four steals. Avery Huggins also helped out with 14 points and six rebounds.
Led by Shamon Jackson's four offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Claflin shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Alijah England led the way individually for the Bears with one rejection.
How It Happened
After falling behind 36-26, Shaw went on a 6-0 run with 4:22 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Scott, to narrow its deficit to 36-32. The Bears continued to close the gap, cutting the Claflin lead to 42-39 by the end of the first half.
Claflin kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 53-46 advantage before Shaw went on an 8-0 run to seize a 54-53 lead with 15:04 to go in the contest. The Bears added free throws from Jackson to make the score 81-79 and got a key stop on the Panthers last possession. Shaw made the most of 11 offensive rebounds to tack on nine second chance points out of 42 total in the period.
