Bears Collapse Late Against Bulldogs

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team scored 30 points off of turnovers, but fell 70-69 to the Bowie State Bulldogs at home Monday.

The Bears (11-5, 3-4) had three players score in double figures, led by Dreveon Scott, who had 26 points and two steals. Alijah England tacked on 15 points and four steals and Avery Huggins helped out with 10 points, five assists, three steals and two blocks.

Isaac Tatum pulled down two offensive rebounds to lead the Shaw offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into five second chance points.

Shaw forced 26 Bowie State turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Monday's game. The Bears turned those takeaways into 30 points on the offensive end of the floor. England's four steals led the way for Shaw.

How It Happened

After falling behind 29-25, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 5:15 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from England, to take a 30-29 lead. Bowie State then responded to tie things up at 34-34 heading into halftime. Shaw got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 18 of its 34 points close to the basket.

Bowie State then snagged a 56-55 advantage before Shaw responded by going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Huggins' three, to seize a 62-56 lead with 2:35 to go in the contest. Bowie State re-asserted control, outscoring the Bears 14-7 the rest of the way to hand Shaw the 70-69 loss. Shaw took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 35 points in the lane.
