Second Half Surge Puts Bears Over Rams

RALEIGH, NC --Dreveon Scott collected 30 points to help lead the Shaw men's basketball team past the Winston-Salem Rams 85-69 at home Saturday.

Scott added nine steals and two blocks to his 30 point game to lead the Bears (12-4, 3-4). Isaiah Buckley helped out with 17 points, six assists and four steals and Avery Huggins chipped in with three points, eight assists and four blocks coming off the bench.

Shaw took advantage of great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 21 assists on 34 made field goals. Huggins' eight assists paced the Bears.

Shaw did a great job disrupting Winston-Salem shots in the contest, coming away with nine blocks. Huggins' four rejections led the way individually for the Bears.

How It Happened

After falling behind 29-28, Shaw went on an 8-0 run with 3:50 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Avion Pinner, to take a 36-29 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. Shaw did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 36 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Shaw kept widening that lead, expanding it to 56-45 before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 62-45 with 7:46 to go in the contest. The Rams narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still cruised the rest of the way for the 85-69 win. Shaw took care of business in the paint, recording 30 of its 49 points in the lane.
