MISENHEIMER, N.C.– The Shaw University men's soccer team battled Pfeiffer University in a tightly contested match Friday evening but came up short in a 1-0 decision at Lefko-Mills Field. The setback drops the Bears to 0-2 on the year, while the Falcons improved to 4-0.
First Half
The opening 45 minutes featured physical play from both sides, with Pfeiffer holding a narrow 6-1 advantage in shots. Shaw's defense, anchored by goalkeeper Joel Goerner Tellez, stood tall with two key saves to keep the match scoreless heading into the break.
Second Half Action
The decisive moment came in the 55th minute when Pfeiffer's Jaiden Wright converted off an assist from Wesley Hooker to put the Falcons ahead 1-0. Shaw pushed forward in the closing stages, generating six second-half shots, but could not find the equalizer.
Defensive Effort and Discipline
Goerner Tellez finished with two saves while playing all 90 minutes in net. The Bears were shown four cards in the contest, including a red card late in the second half, while Pfeiffer also had a player sent off.
