RALEIGH, N.C. –
Shaw University women's basketball standout Mahagony Collins etched her name in the national record books by finishing the 2024-25 season as the NCAA Division II leader in total blocks and blocks per game. The dominant post presence anchored the Lady Bears' defense all year, establishing herself as one of the most formidable rim protectors in the country.
Collins closed the season with a Division II-best 107 total blocks in just 27 games played, altering the course of countless games with her elite shot-stopping ability. Her defensive instincts, impeccable timing, and ability to control the paint were instrumental in Shaw's success, forcing opponents to adjust offensive strategies and think twice before attacking the basket. Collins also topped the nation with 3.96 blocks per contest.
In addition to her national-leading block numbers, Collins consistently ranked among the CIAA's top defenders in rebounds and defensive field goal percentage, making her a complete force in the post. Her performance earned her multiple weekly honors and solidified her reputation as one of the most feared interior defenders in collegiate basketball.
A native of Harrisburg, PA, Collins's ability to impact the game on the defensive end goes beyond statistics. With another year of eligibility remaining, Collins will look to build on her historic season and continue setting the standard for excellence in rim protection at both the conference and national level.
