Dillard Named Chair of CIAA Board of Directors

FROM THE CIAA

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA®) proudly announces the election of Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University, as Chair of the CIAA Board of Directors for the 2025–2027 term. Her two-year tenure began July 1, 2025.

Dr. Dillard will succeed Dr. Aminta Breaux, President of Bowie State University, whose outstanding leadership has significantly advanced the mission and strategic direction of the conference. The CIAA expresses its sincere appreciation for Dr. Breaux's dedicated service and impactful contributions.

Also elected to the Board leadership is Dr. Brenda Allen, President of Lincoln University (PA), who will serve as Vice-Chair. Dr. Allen brings extensive experience and a strong commitment to the continued success of the CIAA and its member institutions.

"It is especially noteworthy that both Dr. Dillard and Dr. Allen represent the CIAA's founding institutions—Shaw University and Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, respectively. Shaw University is the first HBCU in the South, and Lincoln University of Pennsylvania is the first established degree-granting HBCU. These historic universities laid the foundation for the CIAA in 1912, and their continued leadership underscores a powerful legacy of excellence, resilience, and service."

When asked about her new role, Dr. Dillard expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to serve the conference and emphasized her dedication to its mission:

"It is an honor to serve as Chair of the CIAA Board of Directors," said Dr. Dillard. "I look forward to working alongside our member institutions and partners to continue strengthening the legacy of the CIAA and championing the success of our student-athletes—on the field, in the classroom, and beyond."

Looking back on her tenure as Chair, Dr. Breaux offered reflections on the progress made and shared her confidence in the new leadership team:

"Serving as Board Chair has been one of the great privileges of my career," said Dr. Breaux. "I'm proud of the strides we've made as a conference, and I have every confidence that Dr. Dillard will build upon this momentum and continue to elevate the CIAA."

Commissioner McWilliams Parker also shared her thoughts on the leadership transition, while acknowledging the contributions of the outgoing Chair:

"Dr. Dillard and Dr. Allen are thoughtful and focused leaders who bring passion, experience, and vision to the CIAA," she stated. "Their leadership will strengthen our conference as we build on a proud legacy and continue establishing priorities to provide opportunities that uplift our student-athletes and member institutions. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to Dr. Breaux for her outstanding service as Board Chair—her leadership has left a lasting impact on our conference and on my life."

Together, Drs. Dillard and Allen usher in the next era of innovation, collaboration, and commitment to excellence for the newly approved strategic plan that will  move the CIAA forward for the next 3-5 years.
