Lady Bears Fall to Lincoln in Tournament Opener

BALTIMORE, MD --Kaylee Milburn and D'Ayzha Akinson combined to score 32 total points, but the Lady Bears fell to the Lincoln (PA) Lions 54-49 at CFG Bank Arena Tuesday in the 2025 CIAA Tournament Opening Round.

Milburn put together a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears (10-18). Akinson added 14 points and two steals and Elisha Quinn chipped in as well with eight points off of the bench.

Shaw collected 46 rebounds in Tuesday's game compared to Lincoln (PA)'s 43, led by Milburn's 11 boards. The Lady Bears also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 15 second chance points.

The Shaw defense held Lincoln (PA) shooters to only 34.9 percent from the field, including 10 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

Shaw kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 8-4.

Lincoln (PA) kept adding to that lead, building a 23-13 advantage before Shaw went on a 7-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Milburn, to narrow its deficit to 23-20, a score that would hold until halftime.

Lincoln (PA) continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 33-24 advantage before Shaw went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Akinson, to trim its deficit to 33-29 with 5:27 to go in the third. Lincoln (PA) countered and stretched its lead to 39-31 heading into the fourth. Shaw's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled six of the team's 11 third-quarter points.

Lincoln (PA) kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 45-36 advantage before Shaw went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Akinson's layup, to shrink the deficit to 45-41 with 5:37 to go in the contest before also having a chance to take the lead on a three point attempt with questionable contact.A intentional foul on the next possession allowed Lincoln (PA) to respond and outscored the Lady Bears the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 54-49. Shaw took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 14 of its 18 points in the paint.
