ORANGEBURG, SC --The Shaw volleyball team showed remarkable resilience with a five set win against the Claflin Panthers Monday on the road at Tullis Arena.
The victory boosted the Lady Bears' record to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in CIAA play.
Khamare Steppe finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Bears offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .421. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Kalia Morris had 16 and Makayla Brown had 10. From the front row, Asia Olivera contributed five blocks and Sydni Hunter added five rejections.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears cruised to an early lead, easily winning the first set 25-19. Shaw never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that featured eight ties and five lead changes. Shaw also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Claflin attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 12 Claflin attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 2 | Shaw fell in set two 25-21 to tie the match 1-1. The Bears trailed by as many as eight points as Claflin grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Panthers took over the lead.
SET 3 | Shaw put the second-set loss in the rearview mirror and grabbed a 2-1 match lead with a win in set three. The Lady Bears fell behind by as many as eight points at 21-13 before fighting back to win 28-26. Shaw grabbed the lead at 26-25 and held on to take the set. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Claflin attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Shaw couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Panthers forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory. The Lady Bears battled back from a 12-point deficit at 22-10, but it wasn't enough as Claflin hung on to win the set.
SET 5 | Shaw and Claflin went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Bears took set five 15-6 and the match. The Lady Bears led from the first point on in set five to secure the victory. Shaw opened up as much as a nine point lead at 14-5 before finishing off the set.
