SALISBURY, NC --The Shaw volleyball team fell to the Livingstone Blue Bears 3-2 (18-25, 25-9, 25-27, 25-15, 10-15) Thursday on the road at New Trent Grm.
The loss dropped Shaw's record to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in CIAA action.
The Lady Bears were led by a double-double from Makayla Brown, who registered 11 kills and 16 digs on the day. Khamare Steppe also added 12 kills to help the offense.Brown also pitched in with five in the contest. On the defensive end, Kalia Morris chipped in for with 23 digs to go with nine blocks from Cadence Rascoe.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Bears found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-18. Shaw trailed by as many as seven points as Livingstone grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up four times before the Blue Bears took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Shaw evened the match at 1-1 following a 25-9 second-set win. The Lady Bears scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Shaw opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 16 points, to close out the set. The Lady Bears hit .357 over the course of the set. The Shaw offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Shaw's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Livingstone attacks in the stanza.
SET 3 | Livingstone went ahead 2-1 in the match after defeating the Lady Bears in the third set. The Lady Bears fought back from a seven-point hole at 8-1, but Livingstone hung on to win the set 27-25.
SET 4 | Shaw then responded to secure set four 25-15 to force a fifth set. The Lady Bears took control of the set at 2-1 and held the lead the rest of the way. Shaw ended the stanza on a high note by opening up its biggest lead, 10 points, to close out the set. Shaw also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set. Shaw got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six Livingstone attacks in the stanza.
SET 5 | Shaw was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-10, to fall in the match. The Lady Bears fell behind on the first point and never took the lead.
