ROCKY MOUNT, NC - The Shaw University men's soccer team suffered a tough loss to NC Wesleyan College on September 26 falling 5-2 in a hard-fought match. Despite a strong effort on both ends, the Bears were unable to overcome the high-scoring offense of the Bishops.
NC Wesleyan started the game aggressively, putting pressure on the Shaw defense early. The Bishops managed to score four quick goals in the first 29 minutes of action, establishing a lead that would prove difficult to recover from.
Shaw responded with a goal of their own by Joel Callins, Jr right after the halftime break. The Bishops answered with a goal in the 80th minute before Collin Gentel capped the scoring off in the 86th minute to make the final score 5-2.
Carlos Granado started in goal for the Bears allowing four goals while tallying three saves.
Sebastian Brenner came in relief allowing just one goal while adding two saves.
The Bears return to the pitch Wednesday, October 2 as they host Concord University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM inside Durham County Memorial Stadium.
