DURHAM, NC - The Shaw University men's soccer team put together their best 90 minute outing and were rewarded with an impressive 4-1 win over #23 ranked Concord University Wednesday afternoon inside Durham County Memorial Stadium.
With the win, Shaw improves to 3-6-0 overall while Concord falls to 4-2-2.
The Bears wasted little time finding the back of the net as
Zamal Mallebranche received a pass from
Brynjar Johannsson and beat the Mountain Lion keeper in just the second minute of play to go ahead 1-0. Just over 10 minutes later,
Ensa Manneh made a play on the Concord keeper and stole a clearance attempt and connected just outside the box to put the Bears ahead 2-0.
Ahead 2-0 at the break, Shaw used two goals from
Lemar Catlyn including a rocket shot from nearly 25 yards out in the 72nd minute to cushion the Bears lead to 4-0. Concord would spoil the shutout with a goal in the 85 minute.
Shaw trailed in total shots 12-8 to finish but made the most with all four shots on target finding the back of the net.
The Bears will take a short break before returning to action on October 4th as they travel to Pfiffer University. Kickoff is slated for 2.
