AIKEN, SC - Shaw University's men's soccer team faced a tough challenge on September 21 as they traveled to USC Aiken, where they were defeated 3-0 in a hard-fought matchup.
Neither team found much of an offensive rhythm in the first half with both of Shaw's only shots on the contest coming in the first 45 minutes of competition. Shaw was outshot 10-2 by the Pacers in the first half but neither team found the back of the net leading to a 0-0 tie at the break.
In the second half, Shaw displayed improved intensity, but the Pacers struck first in the 55th minute as Finlay Dyer scored off a corner kick. Just 10 minutes later, USC Aiken padded their lead with a strike from Sergio Aspas from out side the box.
The Pacers sealed the victory with a third goal just two minutes later in the 67 minute as Jose Rabadan scored off a long pass leaving Shaw with a final score of 3-0. Despite the loss, the Bears demonstrated resilience and teamwork, which they will look to build on in their upcoming games.
Zamal Mallebranche and Joel Callins, Jr were credited with the shots for the Bears. Carlos Granado played all 90 minutes in the goal for Shaw tallying five saves.
