RALEIGH, NC --Shayne Saigo notched a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds to help the Shaw men's basketball team defeat the Lincoln (PA) Lions 75-68 at home Thursday.
The Bears (6-5, 2-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Saigo, who recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Dj Thomas tacked on 17 points and six rebounds off of the bench and Trent McIntyre added eight points and seven rebounds.
Shaw out-rebounded Lincoln (PA) 42-35 in Thursday's game, led by Saigo's 10 boards. The Bears also grabbed 13 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
Shaw forced 14 Lincoln (PA) turnovers. The Bears turned those takeaways into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Doriuntas Barnes led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 16-15 advantage, Shaw went on an 11-0 run with 12:25 left in the first half to increase its lead to 27-15. The Bears then added four points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 41-25 advantage. Shaw got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 27 of its 41 total points.
The Lions proceeded to tie things up at 59-59 before Shaw went on a 10-0 run, finished off by Barnes' jumper, to seize a 69-59 lead with 2:29 to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still cruised the rest of the way for the 75-68 win. Shaw got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 25 of its 34 total points.
