RALEIGH, N.C. (June 1) –
Ashanti Wright of Shaw University was named to the NCAA Division II Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Team by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) this week.
The Academic All-District honors recognize the nation's top student-athletes in NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA for their combined athletic and academic achievements.
The honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. The All-America teams will be announced June 28.
Wright was a key component to Shaw's track & field success this year. The Lady Bears placed a surprising fourth, their best finish since 2018, at the CIAA Outdoor Championships in early May. The Shaw sophomore was second in the discus throw and third in the shot put.
In the classroom, Wright boasts a 3.65 cumulative grade point average. She majors in business administration/management.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution. She must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's track & field or cross country meets, completed one full calendar year at her current institution and is at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
