SALISBURY, N.C. – The Shaw University women's track and field team turned in a strong and productive showing Saturday at the Blue Bears Invitational, highlighted by multiple top-five finishes, personal bests, and scoring performances across both track and field events.
Leading the way on the track, junior Shaneil Johnson delivered one of the top performances of the day with a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 59.41. Sophomore Shaianne Wiley also impressed, posting a personal-best 2:33.62 in the 800 meters to place sixth, while adding a 29.07 effort in the 200 meters.
Freshman distance runner Galicia Monforte continued her strong season, earning a runner-up finish in the 3000 meters with a personal-best time of 11:21.51, collecting eight team points. Gracyonna Robinson contributed in multiple events, recording a season-best 1:07.37 in the 400 meters and adding a 29.14 mark in the 200 meters, while Reginae Bastian posted season-best times in both the 200 (29.46) and 400 meters (1:12.47).
In the 100 meters, Eva Baana turned in a personal-best time of 14.07 to highlight the short sprint group.
In field events, the Lady Bears made a significant impact. Senior Kimmley Johnson led the way with a third-place finish in the high jump (1.55m), adding another scoring performance with a sixth-place mark in the triple jump (9.96m). Ashanti Wright recorded a fourth-place finish in the discus throw with a mark of 37.14 meters, while Daina Morrison contributed in multiple throwing events, placing fifth in the javelin (26.63m) and 13th in the shot put (9.44m).
Shaw returns to action April, 2-3 at the Vertklasse Meet hosted by High Point University.
