Shaw Caps Banner Week At CIAA Basketball Tourney With 15 Accolades

Brittiney Seymour Was A Two-Time Food Lion Game MVP At The CIAA Tournament
BALTIMORE – The CIAA Basketball Tournament turned out to be a banner week for Shaw University, which earned 15 honors for its athletic achievements.

President Dr. Paulette R. Dillard and veteran Head Coach Jacques Curtis highlighted the Shaw honorees. They were named CIAA Trailblazers on the 50th anniversary of Title IX for their roles in advancing women's sports.

The Shaw University women's basketball team was in the spotlight for their impressive run in the women's tournament. Using mainly a seven-player rotation, the Lady Bears reached the championship finals and finished as CIAA runners-up.

Three student-athletes off that Lady Bears teams, in addition to one men's basketball student-athlete, were recognized for their play on the court.

The Shaw men's basketball team displayed a good attitude in their tournament games, and the CIAA noticed as the Bears received the conference's Sportsmanship Award in their sport.

The CIAA also honored a Shaw alumna as current women's basketball assistant Jessica Hawkins was inducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame for her exploits as a Lady Bears' basketball guard.
