Box Score Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University Lady Bears had a tough time slowing down a hot Winston-Salem State University offense which eventually led to a lopsided 96-44 defeat in a CIAA cross-division matchup Saturday afternoon inside the C.E. Gaines Center on the campus of WSSU.
Shaw (4-8, 1-2 CIAA) scored the first point of the contest early from the charity stripe before falling behind scores of 11-1 and 21-8 before WSSU (6-4, 2-0 CIAA) closed out the quarter ahead 25-16 after a late push from the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears would cut their deficit to seven points before another Rams run blew the game open to a 48-28 halftime lead for WSSU.
The second half mirrored the first with the Rams offense further pulling away outscoring Shaw 48-16 in the final twenty minutes of play while holding Shaw to just six points total in the final stanza.
Makenzie Pollard and Jordan Strange each posted 14 points for the Lady Bears. Four WSSU Rams finished in double figures for the contest.
Shaw will look to end the road trip on a high note as they travel to Livingstone College Monday, January 10 for a CIAA showdown in Salisbury, NC. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
