Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University football team will host their first home game in almost two years as they host the Central State Marauders Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. inside the George Williams Athletic Complex.
The game can be viewed live on the Shaw Bears Sports Network via the CIAA Network. Livestats will be available on www.shawbears.com.
This will be the first ever matchup between the Bears and the Marauders in program history.
Shaw (0-2) returns to action after dropping a heartbreaking 28-26 decision to FCS Davidson College last Saturday. The Bears offense had the ball with under a minute left setting up for the winning score before turning the ball over on downs inside Davidson territory.
Redshirt freshman quarterback Christian Peters made his first career start for the Bears finishing 19-31 for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Sidney Gibbs tallied 110 yards on 15 carries and one score. Super senior Devon Hunt led the Shaw defense with 16 total tackles (seven solo), one tackle for loss and two pass breakups. Four Bears were credited with tackles for loss on the evening.
Peters, Gibbs and Hunt were also tabbed with CIAA Player of The Week honors for Week 2.
Central State (1-1) will be facing their second straight CIAA opponent after collecting their first win 19-7 last Saturday also on the road at Lincoln (PA). The Marauders fell in their season opener 20-6 to Kentucky State on August 28. Central State is led by first year head coach Bobby Rome II.
