Petersburg, VA -  The Shaw University women's basketball team found themselves in a tie game situation late in the fourth quarter looking to secure their third win in four games but unfortunately fell behind after a quick scoring spurt and were unable to recover dropping an 82-77 decision to Alderson Broaddus (2-2) Friday evening the first day of the VSU Thanksgiving Classic. 

Shaw (2-5) led 22-15 after the first 10 minutes of play before both teams put up 24 points each in the second quarter making the score 46-39 in favor of the Lady Bears at halftime. The third quarter again did damage to the Shaw lead as the Battlers were able to cut their deficit to 60-59 heading into the final quarter of play. Both teams battled early in the final stanza trading the lead for almost three minutes.

A Battlers free throw tied the game at 70-70 with just over two minutes remaining in regulation before a 7-0 run gave Alderson Broaddus a 77-70 lead with 54 seconds remaining. The Lady Bears were able to cut their deficit to three points on multiple occasions before the Battlers iced the game at the free-throw line escaping with the win. 

Cherrelle Washington led the Lady Bears offense with 19 points followed by Tanayja London with 13 points. Makenzie Pollard and Inari Jones rounded out the double-figure scorers with 12 and 11 points each. 

Shaw will have a quick turnaround as they return to action Saturday afternoon on day two of the VSU Thanksgiving Classic with a tilt against Penn State-Greater Allegheny. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen live on the CIAA Sports Network.
