Second Quarter Drought Sinks Shaw at USC Aiken

Aiken, S.C. -  A tough second quarter was too much to overcome as the Shaw University women's basketball fell on the road to USC-Aiken 68-44 in a non-conference matchup Tuesday evening in Aiken, S.C. 

 

With the defeat, Shaw now sits a 2-4 overall while USC-Aiken jumps to 2-3 on the season. 

 

The Pacers outscored the Lady Bears 18-10 after the opening 10 minutes of play before an offensive drought led to Shaw being outscored 26-8 in the second quarter leaving the Lady Bears trailing 44-18 at the half. 

 

The third quarter mirrored the opening period as the Pacers outscored the Lady Bears 18-11 before Shaw put their best defensive effort ahead limiting USC-Aiken to just six points in the final quarter while scoring 15. 

 

Nyrobi Pillers led the Shaw offense with 11 points. Inari Jones followed with nine points. Tanayja London led in the rebound department with six followed by three different Lady Bears with five. 

 

Shaw will go on a short holiday break before returning to action Friday, November 26, 2021, as the Lady Bears will face Alderson Broaddus in the VSU Thanksgiving Classic in Peterburg, VA. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. inside the VSU Multi-Purpose Center.
