Bears to Host Golden Bulls for Homecoming

Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University football team will look to please visiting alumni, family, and friends Saturday afternoon when the Bears will host the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls for homecoming in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division matchup.

Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. inside Baker Stadium on the campus of Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. The game can be seen live on the Shaw Bears Sports Network with commentary from Corey Hodges and Daimeon Banks.

Shaw enters homecoming at 4-3 overall, 3-1 CIAA, 1-1 Southern Division) winners of four of their last five games. Most recently the Bears defeated Livingstone College 20-9 last Saturday, October 16 in Salisbury, NC. Shaw received two touchdown passes from Torrin Campbell in relief duty. Andre Brandon Jr, find the end zone yet again while the leading rushing Sidney Gibbs was on the receiving end of a touchdown that put Shaw ahead for good against a feisty Blue Bears squad. Leading receiver Ah'Shaan Belcher finished with three catches for 49 yards and one score reception.

The linebacking tandem of Devon Hunt and Kareem Butler continues to anchor a Shaw defense that ranks towards the top in all CIAA categories. Both finished with 11 tackles against Livingstone with Hunt's 60 total tackles leading the CIAA.  Defensive end Dast Sturkie stuffed the box score with a sack, forced fumble, five total tackles while also recovering an onside kick attempt from Livingstone ending all hope of any miracle comeback attempt.

JCSU heads to Raleigh at 0-6 overall, 0-4 CIAA, and 0-2 in the Southern Division. In their last outing, the Golden Bulls fell to Fayetteville State 55-12. JCSU trailed just 18-12 midway through the second quarter before FSU exploded for a big second half holding the Golden Bulls scoreless the last 37 minutes of the contest.

Shaw has won the last two contests in the series and five of the last seven overall.
