FOOTBALL OPENS 2019 SEASON AT CAMPBELL

RALEIGH, N.C. – Shaw University football will open the 2019 season on the road at FCS-member Campbell on Saturday, Sept. 7. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. (ET) at the Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C.

Saturday's game will air live on ESPN+, to listen to the Bears on the radio locally, tune into 88.3 WUAW FM, and online at ShawBears.com. Live stats are also available at ShawBears.com or GoCamels.com, and follow on Twitter @ShawBears for live updates.

Shaw and Campbell will meet for the second time in program history on Saturday. Last year, both teams met with the Camels topping the Bears 42-0, holding Shaw to just 174 total yards.

The Bears return 14 starters from a 2018 squad, including All-Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Player of the Year and senior linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC), All-CIAA First Team members senior tight end Kevonta Moses (Fort Myers, FL) and offensive lineman Keanu Gonzales (Cary, NC). Shaw had five players named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team featuring Hunt, Gonzales, Moses, sophomore offensive lineman Tyrese Bobbitt (Creedmoor, NC) and junior wide receiver Daniel Bender (Jacksonville, FL).

Shaw was selected to finish seventh in the CIAA Preseason Poll after finishing 5-5 overall and 4-3 in league action during the 2018 season, a record best since the 2013 season.

Head coach Adrian Jones, entering his fourth season, leads Shaw football.

Campbell (0-1) welcomes Shaw for its home opener Saturday. The Camels opened its 2019 slate with a 43-14 setback to Troy on Aug. 31. This season marks the 12th year of FCS football for Campbell; the Camels brought back football in 2008 after a 58-year hiatus.

The Camels are coming off a 6-5 record and 1-4 mark in the Big South Conference.
