SHAW AND EDWARD WATERS TO MEET ON THE GRIDIRON SATURDAY

RALEIGH, N.C. – For the first time in 12 years, Shaw University and Edward Waters College will meet on the gridiron on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the George Williams Athletic Complex. Game time is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

The old rival between Shaw and Edward Waters goes back to the first annual "Willie E. Gary Classic" back in the early 2000's. In fact, the first meeting was held on Sept. 28, 2002 – ironically 17 years ago this coming Saturday. The Bears and Tigers have met six times before Saturday, with Shaw holding the all-time record 4-2 overall.

The game will offer live coverage on the Shaw Bears Sports Network with Corey Hodges and Daimeon Banks providing the games play-by-play commentary and color analyst. Live stats will be available on www.shawbears.com and fans will have the opportunity to follow live tweets on Twitter @ShawBears.

After a triumph double overtime win on the road at Chowan last weekend, the Bears (1-2, 1-0 CIAA) return to the George Williams Athletic Complex with winning momentum. Shaw rattled off a 41-point scoring frame from the Hawks in the second half while outscoring CU 7-6 in the second overtime for its first win of the year behind junior Torrin Campbell's (Toledo, OH) playmaking ability with 316 yards on 23-of-41 passes and four touchdowns. Because of his efforts, Campbell was voted the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Quarterback of the Week announced by the league office Monday (Sept. 23).

As for the Edward Waters Tigers, EWC travels to Raleigh with a 0-3 record after falling 44-14 to Lane on the road in its last outing. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), Division I membered Tigers are located out of Jacksonville, Fla., under the leadership of Greg Ruffin whom was a former Bears head football coach during the 2002 season in which he helped restart the football program at Shaw after a 25-year hiatus.

This weekend's contest is tagged as "Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day", in which all Shaw faculty and staff is invited to the game at a discounted price. The department of athletics at Shaw would like to recognize all Shaw faculty and staff members throughout the game.

General admission is $25, Shaw faculty and staff is $15 with valid ID, all military and senior citizens (65 and older) is $10 with valid ID, visiting students with valid ID is $15, and all Shaw students is free is proper ID.
