RALEIGH, N.C. – Coming off a disappointing setback in its home opener last weekend, the Shaw University football team will have an opportunity to redeem themselves against a high-powered offensive Hawks team of Chowan University on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Murfreesboro, N.C.
The contest, which will be aired live on the NCAA DII Football Showcase platforms, will begin at 6:05 p.m. at the Garrison Stadium. Saturday's contest is one of 18 total games that will be featured on the hybrid model which has the flexibility to be distributed on TV and online.

Saturday's contest marks the eighth meeting between the two football programs since the first meeting on Oct. 18, 2008, where the Bears smacked the Hawks 68-13.
Since the first meeting, Chowan owns the all-time series 4-3 overall, including a four-game win-streak highlighted by a 47-27 win over the Bears during 2018.
Shaw (0-2) fell 26-21 to the visiting Bulldogs of Bowie State last weekend. Despite controlling most the contest, the Bears gave up 14 points in the last quarter, including two punts blocked that led to scores for BSU.
Senior wide receiver Marquis Gorham (Greensville, NC) scored two touchdowns, posting a season-high 126 yards while senior quarterback Torrin Campbell (Toledo, OH) completed 16-of- 23 passes for 249 yards and two TD's. Senior linebacker Devon Hunt (Hamlet, NC) finished with nine tackles and a tackle for loss in the defeat.
The Bears average 17.5 points per game, including 359 yards per game (126.5 rushing and 232.5 passing), but allow 32.0 points by its opponents.
The Hawks (1-1) defeated Alderson Broaddus, 70-16 in its last outing after producing a program best 418 yards on 40 carries. Bryce Witt who threw for seven touchdowns on 14 completions and 259 total yards anchored Chowan's offensive attack while Deshaun Wethington had 12 carries for 194 yards two scores while Colby Scott paced the defense with 10 tackles and 1.5 tackle for loss.
CU posts 46 points per game while allowing its opponents to score 28 points per outing.
Saturday's contest will be the conference opener for both teams.
