LADY BEARS FALL TWICE AT MEREDITH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RALEIGH, N.C. In what appears to be its final non-conference contests for 2019, the Shaw University softball team dropped a pair of games Wednesday afternoon at Division III, Meredith College. The Lady Bears fell 8-0 (six innings) in opener and 14-2 (five innings) in the nightcap.

The Lady Bears (3-13) fell behind 5-0 early during game one and although Shaw found themselves in a hole offensively due to accounting for just two hits, SU's defense kept them in the contest but Meredith (11-21) managed to add two runs in the top of the sixth that would give them the 8-0 victory and run-rule.

Shaw kept within reach, trailing by two after two innings of game two but the Avenging Angels tallied four runs in the top of the third capped off by a home run from Cecilia Coleman with bases loaded for three RBI's.

Down 6-0, the Lady Bears drove in two runs on a single from senior Kiana Rogers (Fort Atkinson, WI) but SU's rally would be cut short as Meredith added on two runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to run away with the five-run rule and sweep.

Rogers went 1-of-3 at the plate with two RBI's while freshman Joan Wendt (Jacksonville, NC) took the two losses on the mound, allowing 10 walks and one strikeout.

Shaw will return to action Saturday, Apr. 13 at Fayetteville State University for a CIAA Southern Division doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
