RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University football team will look to get its first win on the season as they travel to Wingate on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Irwin Belk Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
The game will be broadcasted live on WHSA-FM 88.9 with play-by-play commentating from Eric Curry and Michael Rochelle. The contest will also be aired live on ESPN3 and will be streaming on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.
After a 35-6 season-opening loss to Limestone, the Bears (0-1) will look to regroup offensively. Shaw totaled just 97 yards of offense, including -79 rushing yards and 176 passing yards. The Bears had a total of eight turnovers that included two touchdowns and a special team score for the Saints.
Despite the loss, Shaw's defense held their own as freshman linebacker Devon Hunt (Rockingham, NC) led the way with eight total tackles in his debut, followed by senior Keelan Jones (Kansas City, MO) with seven.
Wingate (1-0) is coming off a 38-28 win over Johnson C. Smith last weekend. Lawrence Pittman led the offensive attack with 16 carries for 135 yards and two touchdowns, while Blake Hayes contributed 15 carries for 72 yards and Jordan Berry added 68 yards for five receptions.
The last time these two teams met, the Bulldogs defeated Shaw 30-16 at Durham County Memorial Stadium on Sept. 12.
Following, Saturday's action, the Bears will return to its home slate against UNC Pembroke on Sept. 17 and Bowie State on Sept. 24 at Durham County Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
