RICHMOND, Va. – The Shaw University women's basketball team will make an appearance in the 2016 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament on Friday, March 11 against West Liberty University in the first quarterfinal games set for a 12 noon tip-off at the Arthur Ashe, Jr. Center hosted by Virginia Union University.

In their last outing, head Coach Jacques Curtis' squad came up short in a 70-66 decision to Virginia Union in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) title tilt, while the Hilltoppers (27-4) also dropped a 70-66 decision to Wheeling Jesuit in the Mountain East Conference Championship final.
Senior Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) has led the Lady Bears in scoring this season with an average of 13.5 points per game, while senior Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) contributes 12.9 points per contest. Defensively, Ross averages 10.2 rebounds per outing, following sophomore Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) with 5.6 rebounds.
Under the leadership of Lunn Ullom, the Hilltoppers are offensively led by Liz Flowers who averages 19.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, while Kailee Howe produces 14.1 points and Kierra Simpson with 13.6 and a team-high 13.2 rebounds.
Friday's contest will be the first ever meeting between the two schools in program history.
The champion of the Atlantic Region will face the champion from the East Region in the Elite Eight on March 22 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the Sanford Pentagon. However, the national championship this year will be played on April 4 in Indianapolis, Indiana, in conjunction with the 2016 NCAA Division I Women's Final Four.
