SHAW WELCOMES LIVINGSTONE FOR COACHES VS. CANCER DOUBLEHEADER

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host Livingstone College on Saturday, February 6th in Spaulding Gymnasium for CIAA Southern Division contests with the women's game slated for 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 4 p.m.

The Bears and Lady Bears' coaching staff will take part in suits and sneakers to recognize Coaches vs. Cancer during the games.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers all coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. The program leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.

The Lady Bears (18-5, 10-1 CIAA) enter Saturday's action on an eight-game win streak after crushing Virginia State, 75-48 on Wednesday. Shaw had no problem getting things going against the Trojans after posting a 15-5 lead in the first quarter as the Lady Bears never looked back to cruise to the victory. Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) led all scorers with 14 points and eight rebounds.

For the Lady Blue Bears (11-9, 6-5 CIAA), LC heads to Spaulding looking to overcome a 90-81 loss to Virginia Union in New Trent Gymnasium. The Lady Blue Bears got within two-points against VUU but that would be the closest they would get after accounting for a 13-2 disadvantage in the final stanza. De'Jesus scored 18 points in the setback.

On the men's side, the Bears (9-14, 6-4 CIAA) dropped an 88-67 decision to Virginia State in Spaulding and will be looking to snap a two-game losing skid when they host the Blue Bears. David Madol (Manchester, NH) led Shaw in scoring with 12 points and six rebounds.

The Blue Bears (9-14, 4-7 CIAA) come to Spaulding after snapping a three-game losing streak with a win over Virginia Union, 108-103. Ty Newman finished with a game-high 30 points and eight rebounds for LC.
