RALEIGH, NC – The Shaw University women's basketball team is just one victory away from competing in the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championship but in order to do that, the Lady Bears will battle it out with Chowan University on Friday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. in Time Warner Cable Arena.

The last time these two teams met, Shaw defeated Chowan 67-64 on Jan. 4 in Spualding Gymnasium.
The Lady Bears (23-6) are coming off a 61-43 victory over Winston-Salem State on Wednesday. Shaw had a rough first half but managed to trail by six points at halftime. The Lady Bears would outscore WSSU 41-17 in the second half to take the win. Tabatha Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) notched 16 points, while Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for Shaw.
Meanwhile, the Hawks (20-8) are also coming off a win over Bowie State. Chowan scored a layup and one free-throw with under a minute left to clinch a 59-57 overtime victory. Jordan Payne led CU with 16 points. The Hawks will make their appearance in the semifinals for the first time since 2011-2012 season.
Should Shaw win, the Lady Bears will face the winner of either Virginia Union or Livingstone in the championship game on Saturday, Feb. 27 with a tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m. in Time Warner Cable Arena.
