LADY BEARS TO FACE WINSTON-SALEM STATE WEDNESDAY

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Shaw University women's basketball team will face Winston-Salem State University on Wednesday, Feb. 24 in Time Warner Cable Arena in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) quarterfinal round. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The Lady Bears (22-6, 14-2 CIAA) swept the Lady Rams during the regular season and in their last meeting, Shaw defeated WSSU 73-54 on Feb. 10. Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) led all players with 18 points and six rebounds for in the victory.

 

Offensively, Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) leads the Lady Bears in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game and a team-best 9.7 rebounds per outing. All-CIAA honoree Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) adds 12.8 points per game and dishes out 3.4 assists per contest.

 

As for the Lady Rams (12-15, 6-10 CIAA), WSSU was able to outlast Virginia State Tuesday in a 50-44 decision in Time Warner Cable Arena. Briana Arnold led WSSU with 12 points, while grabbing eight rebounds in the win.

 

Should Shaw advance, the Lady Bears would participate in the semifinals, starting at 1 p.m. against the winner of Chowan and Bowie State's game, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
