SHAW HOSTS CROSS-TOWN RIVAL SAINT AUGUSTINE'S FOR THINK PINK DOUBLEHEADER

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's basketball teams are set to host its annual "Think Pink" games as part of their Saturday doubleheader against cross-town rival Saint Augustine's University in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.  The Lady Bears will take the court at 2 p.m., followed by the Bears game at 4 p.m.

 

The women's contest will be broadcasted live on WSHA-FM 88.9 with Donal Ware providing play-by-play commentary, while Michael Rochelle will perform the color analyst.

 

In addition, fans are encourage to show their support by wearing pink to the game.

 

The Lady Bears (20-5, 12-1 CIAA) return home after extending their win-streak to 10-games with a 73-54 victory at Winston-Salem State. SAU (3-20, 0-13 CIAA) travels to Spaulding after falling to Johnson C. Smith 76-62.

 

When the Lady Bears and Lady Falcons last met on Feb. 1, Shaw defeated Saint Augustine's 92-55. In the matchup, Tabatha Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) hit a game-high 19 points, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out two assists in the contest. Four players scored in double figures for the Lady Bears: Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) posted 15 points, both Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) and Fantasha Tyson (Raleigh, NC) charted 11 points each and Aaliyah Mercer (Bronx, NY) added 10 points off the bench.

 

The Lady Bears have won the last 12 games against the Lady Falcons in the last five years.

 

The Bears (11-14, 8-5 CIAA) return to Spaulding on a two-game win-streak with a 100-90 victory at Winston-Salem State. The Falcons of SAU (9-14, 4-9 CIAA) heads to Spaulding after an 81-68 loss to Johnson C. Smith in Emery Gymnasium.

 

The Falcons won the first meeting 71-67 against Shaw on Feb. 1 at home. The Bears had the opportunity to tie the game or take the lead as the score showed 63-61 but Anthony Gaskins hit a 3-pointer to extend the Falcons lead to 66-61 with 3:00 left and Shaw would not get any closer for the remainder of the contest.

 

Joell Hopkins, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Quentin Judd (Baltimore, MD) netted a career-high 14 points and Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) finished with 12 points for Shaw.
