BOWIE, Md. – Shaw basketball will continue its road skid and CIAA play with both the men's and women's teams traveling to Bowie, Md., to face Bowie State University on Saturday, Jan. 9th. The women's game is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 4 p.m. at A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Lady Bears (10-5, 2-1 CIAA) are coming off a 92-63 setback to Virginia Union on Thursday. The loss snapped a 29-game win streak against the Lady Panthers and was their first setback in league action. Three players scored in double figures for Shaw, including Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) who finished with 12 points, followed by Tabatha Anderson (Manhattan Beach, CA) with 12 points and Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) with 11 points.
Bowie State enters the contest after handling Saint Augustine's 66-49 on Thursday. Against the Lady Falcons, Kyah Proctor finished with a game-high 20 points, while Kiara Colston hauled in 15 points and Ashley Jennings netted 12 point and 13 rebounds.
Last season, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Bears, 71-67 in Spaulding Gymnasium on January 10, 2015.
Meanwhile, on the men's side, the Bears (5-10, 2-1 CIAA) are coming off a 58-56 triumph over the Virginia Union Panthers on Thursday night. John Savoy (Temple Hills, MD) hit the game's winning basket with .3 seconds left to lift Shaw past VUU. He led the Bears in scoring with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Larry Richardson, II (Garner, NC) and Joell Hopkins, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) notched 16 and 12 points, respectively.
The Bulldogs (9-5, 2-1 CIAA) led by Justine Beck's 25 points, eight rebounds and five steals downed Saint Augustine's, 78-62 on Thursday night. Miles Jackson and Ahmaad Wilson joined Beck in double figure scoring with 15 and 10 points, respectively for Bowie State.
The last time these two teams met, Shaw won the battle 61-43 over BSU in Raleigh, NC a season ago.
