RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University men's and women's basketball teams will host a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) doubleheader on Monday (Jan. 4) as the Lady Bears and Bears host the visiting Hawks of Chowan University in action inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Tip-off for the women's contest is set for 6 p.m., with the men's game to follow at approximately 8 p.m. Both games will offer live statistics online at shawbears.com.
The Lady Bears (9-4 overall, 1-0 CIAA) led by head coach Jacques Curtis will be seeking their second conference win of the year against the Hawks following a 73-65 setback to Wingate on Saturday in their non-conference finale.
Meanwhile, the Bears will try to stay in the winning column under head coach Joel Hopkins as Shaw enters the contest with a 4-9 overall record and a 1-0 mark in league action after an 83-79 triumph over Bluefield State College in their non-conference season finale this past Thursday at Spaulding.
Chowan enters Monday's two games with marks of 7-4 on the women's side along with 8-3 overall in men's action to date this year. Both teams are 1-0 in league action.
Following the doubleheader against Chowan, both the Lady Bears and Bears will be on the road over the next four games for CIAA action as they travel to Virginia Union on Thursday (Jan. 7), following a matchup at Bowie State on Saturday (Jan. 9) before visiting Lincoln (Pa.) on Monday (Jan. 11) and Livingstone on Saturday (Jan. 16).
