SHAW BASKETBALL HITS THE ROAD FOR DOUBLEHEADER AT FAYETTEVILLE STATE

RALEIGH, N.C.  – After having the weekend off due to inclement weather, the Shaw University men's and women's basketball team will resume play and travel to Fayetteville, NC on Wednesday evening for a doubleheader against CIAA Southern Division foe Fayetteville State University in Felton J. Capel Arena.

 

The evening will begin with the women's action at 5:30 p.m., and the men's game will follow approximately at 7:30 p.m.

 

For the Lady Bears (14-5, 6-1 CIAA), Shaw will be looking to extend their win-streak to five-games after defeating Winston-Salem State, 91-64 in their last outing. Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) leads the Lady Bears offensively, averaging 14.0 points per game and a team-best 9.9 rebounds per outing. Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) and Michelle Wright (Baltimore, MD) contribute 12.8 and 9.3 points, respectively.

 

The Lady Broncos (11-8, 5-3 CIAA) are led by Bria Robinson, who averages 12.4 points per game, while Vernessa Hinnant hauls in 11.8 points per contest. In their last outing, FSU took down Livingstone, 65-63. The Lady Broncos will face Winston-Salem State today at 4:30 p.m. for a rescheduled game due to inclement weather over the weekend.

 

Shaw swept the season series against the Lady Broncos last season.

 

Meanwhile, the Bears (8-11, 5-2 CIAA) will be looking to stay on the winning side of things after powering past Winston-Salem State, 87-70 in their last outing. Shaw is led by Larry Richardson, II's (Garner, NC) 13.8 points per game, while Joell Hopkins, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) and David Madol (Manchester, NH) average 12.6 and 10.5 points, respectively.

 

The Broncos (8-9, 3-5 CIAA) defeated Livingstone, 84-78 on Jan. 20th. Michael Tyson leads the Broncos in scoring with 18.2 points per contest, while Joshua Dawson adds 16.3 points per game. FSU will square off with the Rams at 6:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem, NC.

 

Last season, the two teams split the regular season.
