BASKETBALL HEADS TO LIVINGSTONE SATURDAY

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University men's and women's basketball team will venture on the road this weekend to face another CIAA opponent, Livingstone College on Saturday, January 16th in New Trent Gymnasium for divisional play. Game time for the women's game is set for 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at approximately 4 p.m.

The Lady Bears post a 12-5 overall record, 4-1 in the league while the Bears have been rolling with a 7-10 overall record, 4-1 in the conference after a three-game win-streak against Northern Division opponents Virginia Union, Bowie State and Lincoln. The Lady Bears finished the road skid 2-1, with their lone loss to Virginia Union.

 

Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) leads the Lady Bears in scoring with an average of 14.4 points per game, while also earning a team-best with an average of 10.4 rebounds per outing. Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) adds 11.9 points per contest.

 

For the Bears, Larry Richarson, II (Garner, NC) leads the pack with an average of 13.1 points per game, while Joell Hopkins, Jr. (Raleigh, NC) and David Madol (Manchester, NH) contribute 12.9 and 10.8 points per contest.

 

Meanwhile, Livingstone's  Lady Blue Bears enter Saturday's contest with an 8-6 overall record and 3-2 mark in the CIAA, while the Blue Bears hold a 7-9 overall record and 2-3 record in league standings.

 

On the women's side, Amber Curtis leads the offensive attack with an average of 17.4 points per game, while Kyala Searcy and Bria Patterson add 13.5 and 10.4 points, respectively.

 

Ty Newman leads the Blue Bears squad with an average of 18 points per game, following Eric Dubose with 14.9, Nasir Austin with 11.0, while Cordero Holt and Daryl Trynham add 10.5 and 10.4 points, respectively.  

 

Following Saturday's contests, Shaw will return to Spaulding on Wednesday, January 20th to host Winston-Salem State University for CIAA divisional play. Tip-off for the women's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
