Raleigh, N.C. --- Shaw University fell to Meredith College in a double header at Worthdale Park on Saturday February 7.
The lady bears lost the first game 13-2 and the second game 10-2. With the dropped pair Shaw falls to 0-4 on the season.
In the first game, Shaw gained an RBI when Renee Holmes ran in on a sacrificed fly from Shanice Anderson. The play would tie up the score with one run a piece in the first inning. Meredith responded with two runs in the top of the second and another run in the top of the third. With the bases loaded, Ladazia Burris advanced to first on error by Meredith's pitcher. The error allowed Holmes to score for the Lady Bears. Meredith scored a total of nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game 13-2.
The second game of the double header, Meredith's pitchers held the Lady Bears to only four hits in the five inning game. Both of Shaw's RBI's came in the bottom of the fifth when Brittany Kline doubled to center field allowing Holmes to score for the Lady Bears. Shaw picked up a run in the bottom of the frame when Kline scored on an RBI single by Chakiryn Jackson, making the score 10-2. Jackson's RBI would be the final run scored in the game, and the Lady Bears would walk away with a 10-2 loss.
The Lady Bears are back in action at home on Saturday February 14 with a double header against Salem International University. The game will be held at Worthdale Park in Raleigh, NC beginning at 1:00 pm followed by the second game at 3:00 pm.
