LADY BEARS BACK HOME SATURDAY TO HOST WINGATE

RALEIGH, N.C.  – The Shaw University women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium Saturday evening to host Wingate University in the season's final non-conference home game on Saturday, Jan. 2nd.

 

Tip between the Lady Bears and the Bulldogs is set for 4 p.m.

 

The Lady Bears (9-3) enter Saturday's contest after posting a 2-0 mark in the Lynn Women's Basketball Courtyard Holiday Classic. Shaw defeated Lynn, 76-61 and Saint Leo 64-54. Eboni Ross (Columbia, SC) leads the efforts offensively, averaging 15.4 points per game. She also charts a team-best 11.7 rebounds per outing. Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) contributes 11.7 points to round out the double figure scoring for SU.

 

Collectively, the Lady Bears average 77.3 points, while shooting 21.6 percent from behind the arc.

 

The Bulldogs (6-3) are coming off a 55-41 victory over Fayetteville State University on Wednesday.  Morgan McGee and Kristina Rumplasch led in scoring with 13 points each. As a team, Wingate averages 70.6 points per game, while shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line.

 

The last time these two teams met, the Lady Bears came out with 75-67 victory over the Bulldogs on Dec. 9, 2014.

 

Following Saturday's action, the Lady Bears will begin conference play as they host Chowan University on Jan. 4th with a tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m. in Spaulding Gymnasium.
