RALEIGH, N.C. – The Bears football team will host cross-town rival Saint Augustine's for the annual Shaw University homecoming and senior day at Durham County Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Nov.7th for the season finale. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
Both teams will meet on the gridiron for the 45th time on Saturday, with the Bears leading the all-time series 26-16-1 over the Falcons.
SU (1-8, 1-5 CIAA) enters the contest coming off an impressive 32-25 double overtime win against Winston-Salem State University. Senior running back Marquise Grizzle (Camden, NC) led the Garnet and White ground attack with 164 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. The CIAA offensive back of the week became the all-time leader in rushing in the second quarter.
Saint Augustine's (0-9, 0-6 CIAA) hopes to reverse its fortunes after enduring a 22-3 setback to Johnson C. Smith last weekend. The Falcons only score came off a 33-yard field goal from Sean Smith in the third quarter.
Despite neither team generating much offense, SAU accounted for 136 total offensive yards compared to the Golden Bulls 218. Roderick Davenport, II led on offense with 93 yards on 28 carries, while defensively, Durell Newby and Terry Warren held the Golden Bulls to 26 rushing yards, registering four sacks.
The Bears hold a 3-2 record against the Falcons since 2010.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the ceremony for all of the football seniors will conducted before kickoff.
