RALEIGH, N.C. – The Shaw University women's basketball team will face Elizabeth City State University and Virginia State University in non-conference matchups on Friday, Nov. 27 through Saturday, Nov. 28 as part of the Chick-Fil-A Classic in Petersburg, Va., hosted by VSU. Admission is $5.
The Lady Bears will square off with the Lady Vikings on Friday with a tip slated for 4 p.m. and will conclude the tournament with a matchup against the Trojans on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Shaw (2-1) will look to keep the momentum going following one of their best performances on the young season in a 114-53 home victory against Belmont Abbey. Five players finished in double-digits, including Eboni Ross (Greensboro, NC) who led all scorers with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Kaula Jacks (Chesapeake Beach, MD) added 18 points, while Michelle Wright (Baltimore, MD) contributed 11 points. Both Laquisha Taylor (Charlotte, NC) and Bryann Guyton (Richfield, MN) finished with 10 each.
The Garnett and White dominated the low post, holding a 54-22 advantage in the paint.
ECSU (0-3) will look to get their first win on the season after dropping a 73-67 decision to Wilmington University at home. The Lady Vikings are led by Breona Jones, who averages 11.0 points per game and 4.0 assists. Jalyn Brown and Arielle Harris contribute 9.0 and 8.3 points per contest, respectively.
As a team, the Lady Vikings averages 57.0 ppg, while allowing their opponent to average 73.0.
VSU (1-2) enters the weekend hoping to continue on a good note after a earning their first win on the season against Newport News Apprentice (81-54). The Trojans average just five more points than their opponents at 65.3 points per game. Wynterra Pittman is the lone Trojan that is averaging double-digits in scoring with an average of 18.0 points. She also leads on defense with 12.3 rebounds per contest.
