Box Score FAIRFIELD, AL. - Shaw University coming short offensively to get a running game established lost 30-6 to Miles College played at Sloan-Alumni Stadium, in Fairfield, AL Saturday evening. Shaw and Miles had met twice in the past before today's game.
With the loss, Shaw starts their season with an 0-1 run.
The Bear's struggled on the ground most of the game averaging 1.3 yards per rush and 7.6 yards in passing.
Miles College wasted little time getting on the board using an 8-play drive giving the Golden Bears a 7-0 lead.
The second quarter the Golden Bears gained an additional 14 points bringing the score to 21-0.
It wasn't until the third quarter that the Bears showed life as Trey Folston completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Kowaski Kitchens.
The celebration would be short lived as Ian Burris field goal attempt was blocked and returned 98 yards for the two-point conversion by Miles, giving the Golden Bears a 30-6 lead.
The fourth quarter proved challenging for both teams as neither one would be able to put any points on the board.
Head Coach Massey explained, "This was just the first game of the year, we know we have to get in some shape. The offensive line is young and I thought they played well for the most part, so having said that we have something that we have to work on and build off of for the game against University of West Alabama next week."
Next Saturday, the Bears travel back to Alabama to face of against University of West Alabama. Game time is 6 p.m. CST.
