RALEIGH, N.C. — Shaw University freshman Kristopher Young has been named the CIAA Rookie of the Week after a strong performance in the Bears' season opener.

Young totaled eight tackles, including five solo stops, to lead Shaw defensively and make an immediate impact in his collegiate debut. His effort helped highlight the promise of the Bears' young defensive unit as Shaw opened the 2026 season.

The weekly honor marks the first conference accolade of Young's career and gives Shaw an early-season award winner on the defensive side of the ball.

Young and the Bears return to action Saturday night as they travel to Wilson, NC to face the Barton Bulldogs. Kickoff is slated for 7 PM.
