Shaw Trio Earns CIAA Football Weekly Honors

RALEIGH, NC --   Shaw University football collected three Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association weekly honors Monday following the Bears' 28-27 overtime victory over Livingstone College, as Alexander Marsh was named Quarterback of the Week, Quadir McEachin earned Linebacker of the Week honors and Kristopher Young was selected Rookie of the Week.

The weekly awards are voted on by the CIAA Sports Information Directors Association.

Marsh directed the Shaw offense in another dramatic finish, completing 16 of 25 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. The sophomore averaged more than 10 yards per completion and produced a long pass of 54 yards as the Bears finished with 431 yards of total offense.

With Shaw trailing 27-20 in overtime, Marsh delivered one of his biggest throws of the afternoon, connecting with Jeffrey McDonald Jr. for a 13-yard touchdown. The Bears then elected to go for the victory, with Fabian Diggs converting the two-point attempt to give Shaw the 28-27 win.

The honor is Marsh's second CIAA Quarterback of the Week selection this season. He previously earned the award following Shaw's overtime victory against Ferrum, when he passed for 287 yards and three touchdowns.

McEachin anchored the Shaw defense with a game-high 13 tackles, including 10 solo stops and three assists. The junior linebacker also registered a six-yard sack and one tackle for loss as Shaw limited Livingstone to 20 points in regulation before the game went to overtime.

McEachin's performance came at key moments throughout the contest, including a sack late in the fourth quarter that helped stall a Livingstone possession. He also recorded tackles on both of Livingstone's first two rushing plays during its overtime possession.

Young continued his strong freshman campaign with 10 total tackles, including seven solo stops and three assists. He also contributed a half-tackle for loss while providing support against both the run and pass throughout the afternoon.

The Rookie of the Week honor is Young's second of the season after he also received the conference award following the opening week of the 2026 campaign.

Shaw improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in CIAA play with the overtime victory over Livingstone. The Bears have now won four consecutive games following their season-opening loss.

The Bears return to action Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Bowie, Maryland, to face Bowie State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
