Strong Defense Leads Shaw Past Lincoln (PA) 80-59

RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team scored 35 points off of turnovers on the way to an 80-59 victory against the Lincoln (PA) Lions at home Thursday.

The Bears (11-4, 3-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Avery Huggins, who had 23 points, seven rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Dreveon Scott added 17 points and six steals and Isaac Tatum chipped in as well with 13 points and five assists.

Led by Alijah England's two offensive rebounds, Shaw did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.

Shaw forced 27 Lincoln (PA) turnovers while committing just eight themselves in Thursday's game. The Bears turned those takeaways into 35 points on the other end of the floor. Scott's six steals led the way for Shaw.

How It Happened

After falling behind 15-7, Shaw went on an 11-0 run with 13:09 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Justin Harris, to take an 18-15 lead. The Bears then added 10 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 38-25 advantage. Shaw relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 38 points.

Following intermission, Shaw kept widening that lead, expanding it to 67-53 before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 73-53 with 2:37 to go in the contest. The Bears kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 80-59 win. Shaw capitalized on 13 Lincoln (PA) turnovers in the period, collecting 18 points off those turnovers.
