BOWIE, MD --Dreveon Scott totaled 20 points to help lead the Shaw men's basketball team past the Bowie State Bulldogs 80-75 on the road Saturday.
Scott added eight rebounds to his 20 point game to lead the Bears (10-2, 1-2). Isaiah Buckley helped out with 16 points, four assists and two steals and Justin Harris chipped in with nine points and two steals coming off the bench.
Shaw grabbed 31 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Bowie State's 28, led by Scott's eight boards.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Bowie State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Avery Huggins led the way individually for the Bears with two rejections.
How It Happened
After falling behind 34-33, Shaw went on an 8-0 run with 3:28 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Buckley, to take a 41-34 lead. The Bears then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 44-38 advantage. Shaw relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down six shots to account for 18 of its 44 points.
Shaw kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 60-48 with 13:23 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still held on for the 80-75 win. Shaw took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 36 points in the lane.
