ETTRICK, VA. — The Shaw University women's soccer team earned a convincing 2-0 victory over Virginia State University Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Stadium, recording their fifth shutout of the season.
The Lady Bears (6-4-3) jumped ahead early when Johanna Lillja found the back of the net in the 6th minute to give Shaw a quick 1-0 lead. Shaw extended its advantage midway through the second half when Lorena Gonzalez converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to make it 2-0.
Goalkeeper tandom of Olivia Ankrom and Kadence Miller anchored the defense, facing just one shot on goal and securing the shutout with a second-half save. Shaw controlled possession throughout, outshooting the Trojans 7-1 while holding a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
Shaw returns to action Thursday, November 6, hosting Bluefield State at 1 p.m. at the WRAL Soccer Complex.
