RALEIGH, N.C. - The Shaw University Lady Bears volleyball team closed out its 2025 home slate in dominant fashion Monday night, sweeping Claflin University 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-10) on Senior Night inside historic C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
Shaw (11-9, 9-5 CIAA) was sharp from start to finish, hitting .375 as a team while collecting 42 kills and 16 service aces. The Lady Bears limited Claflin (3-21, 3-11 CIAA) to just 10 kills and a -.042 hitting percentage.
Makayla Brown led the way with nine kills, five service aces, and six digs for 14 points. Kya Moore finished with eight kills, 14 assists, and nine digs, while Sydni Hunter hit .727 with eight kills. Leana Gould added seven kills, three aces, and two blocks, and Kalia Morris chipped in 15 digs and four service aces to pace the defense.
Shaw rolled through the first set behind seven service aces to take a 25-11 win. The Lady Bears continued their momentum in the second frame with 13 kills and five more aces before closing out the match with another dominant 25-10 victory.
The Lady Bears honored seniors Moore, Brown, Morris, and Khamare Steppe before the match.
Up next, Shaw heads to Fayetteville State University for a match on Nov. 6. First serve is slated for 6 PM inside Capel Arena.Â
