Moore puts up triple-double in Bears 3-2 victory against Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, NC --Kya Moore secured a triple-double with 14 kills, 10 digs, and 26 assists to power the Shaw volleyball team to a 3-2 win (25-21, 24-26, 26-24, 21-25, 15-13) over the Winston-Salem Rams Thursday on the road at Whitaker Gymnasium .

The conference victory improved Shaw's record to 9-8 overall and 7-4 in CIAA action.

Moore had an outstanding day, notching a triple-double with 14 kills, 10 digs, and 26 assists to lead the Bears. Leana Gould also added 14 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kalia Morris chipped in for with 16 digs to go with three blocks from Sydni Hunter.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Bears grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-21. Shaw led by five points at 20-15 before closing out the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.

SET 2 | Shaw fell in the second set 26-24 to even the match 1-1. The Bears dropped a tight second set, losing in a stanza that was tied nine times and had six lead changes.

SET 3 | Shaw fired back after the set-two loss to take set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bears persevered in a back-and-forth set to win 26-24 in a stanza that featured three lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way. The Bears racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.

SET 4 | Shaw couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Rams forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory. Winston-Salem grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 and Shaw was never able to recover in a set that was tied up three times before the Rams took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 5 | Shaw and Winston-Salem went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Bears took the fifth set 15-13 and the match. The Bears grabbed control of the set-five lead at 2-1 and held it the rest of the way. Shaw led by as many as six points at 11-5 before closing out the set, collecting 10 kills while only notching one attack error in the process.
