BOWIE, MD. — The Shaw University women's volleyball team wrapped up play at the CIAA Round-Up hosted by Bowie State University with a 1-2 record, highlighted by a comeback victory over Elizabeth City State on Saturday.
Shaw (8-8, 6-4 CIAA) opened the weekend with a four-set loss to Bluefield State, falling 25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19. Senior setter Kya Moore led the Bears with 12 kills, 15 assists and 13 digs, while Khamare Steppe added 10 kills and MaKayla Brown chipped in 11.
Later that day, the Bears bounced back with a decisive 3-1 win against Elizabeth City State (16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-20). Moore once again paced Shaw's balanced attack with seven kills and 18 assists, while Leana Gould and Brown each notched 10 and nine kills respectively. Kalia Morris anchored the defense with 13 digs and five assists.
In Sunday's finale, Shaw battled Virginia State in a five-set thriller but came up short 3-2 (25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 15-10). Moore turned in another standout effort with 13 kills, 27 assists and four aces. Gould matched her with 13 kills, and Morris recorded 16 digs to lead the back row.
The Lady Bears are back in action Thursday, October 23 as they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face the WSSU Rams. First serve is slated for 6 PM
