RALEIGH, NC --The Shaw men's basketball team got a 30-point showing from the bench on the way to a 70-68 win against the Winston-Salem Rams at home Wednesday.
The Bears (10-9, 5-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Darius Abraham, who had 17 points. Trent McIntyre tacked on 13 points, eight rebounds and two steals and Jermaine Vereen added six points, six rebounds and three blocks.
The Shaw offense grabbed 10 boards and turned them into six second chance points.
Shaw did a great job disrupting Winston-Salem State shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Vereen's three rejections led the way individually for the Bears.
How It Happened
After falling behind 26-21, Shaw went on a 5-0 run with 4:41 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Dishon Daniels, to tie the game at 26. Winston-Salem then pulled ahead, sending the Bears into halftime down 31-30.
After intermission, Shaw managed to gain control and had a 48-45 lead before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 56-45 with 8:30 to go in the contest. The Rams narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bears still held on for the 70-68 win. Shaw capitalized on nine Winston-Salem State turnovers in the period, collecting 14 points off those turnovers.
